Polish Genealogical Society of California
There are six regularly scheduled General Meetings each year held the fourth Saturday of January, March, May, July, September and November. The date may be changed when a holiday conflicts.
Senior members are available in the morning from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. to assist researchers with their questions. The classes are set up to introduce and explain techniques of Polish and general genealogical research. Board Meetings are open to members only. The General Meeting features a speaker with a topic of interest. The LAFHL is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays.

(Helps genealogists understand gazetteers and how they can be used as a research tool)
Different types of gazetteers are shown. Examples include Poland, Germany, and parts
of Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, and Lithuania).
2:30 p.m. General Meeting
Speaker: Nancy Huebotter “Oral Family History”
(How to Conduct Successful Interviews including how to use oral histories to document
the lives of your ancestors. Interviewing family members, for the purpose of obtaining
family history information is a valuable means of laying the foundation for later research.
This lecture explores the skills and techniques necessary for conducting successful and
productive interviews).
March 24 PGS-CA Meeting at LAFHL

1 p.m. Class: Steve Andruszkewicz “Research U.S. Veteran Websites”
(Steve will present sites he’s been using to locate former Navy shipmates and also
some used to research his father's Naval Service.
2:30 p.m. General Meeting
Speaker: Tom Underhill “Ten Techniques to Improve Your Digital Photography”
(Today's digital cameras provide a significant improvement over those of even a few
years ago. Even in 'auto' mode they can capture great images. This class refreshes
some elemental photography techniques and builds on them, extending to research
techniques you can use from the genealogical library to the graveyard. Among
other topics, attendees will learn methods to use a camera in place of a scanner,
capture microfilm images, and maximize graveyard photography).

May 26 PGS-CA Meeting at LAFHL

1 p.m. Part 1 Robert Sherins “Walking through Historical Palestine”
(Christianity and Judaism are integral parts of Polish culture. Robert will review some of the
roots of Western culture and religion from 40,000 years ago. Historic sites in the Middle East
offer insights into the origins of Christian and Jewish-Polish traditions. More recently,
archeological and genealogical evidence has become available, which will be woven into an
interesting narrative with extensive geographic ramifications. Robert and his wife, Marlene,
lived in southern Turkey where he served in the U.S. Air Force and they extensively toured
Israel and the Middle East).
2:30 p.m. General Meeting Part 2 Paul & Janice Lipinski “Welcome to the Holyland”
(A photographic journey of a 2008 pilgrimage beginning in the Sea of Galilee, Tabgha, Mount
Arbel, to Cana, the Jordan River, Nazareth, Qumran, the Dead Sea, Bethlehem, ending in the old
city of Jerusalem).
